The Live Local Act, or SB 102 has allocated $711 million to affordable housing programs in Florida. One of these programs is the Hometown Heroes Program, which was previously only available to certain occupations in the workforce, such as firefighters, police and nurses.
Beginning July 1, 2023, the Hometown Heroes Program will open up to all qualified Florida first-time homebuyers who are employed by a Florida-based employer, making at or below 150% of the area median income (AMI). The limit will also increase from $25,000 to $35,000.
Affordable housing in Florida is at such a high demand that the $100 million in additional funding is expected to run out quickly.
